Curriculum Integration

The world of Dr. Plush’s F.I.O.E. store integrates into multi-disciplinary classrooms by aligning directly with Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) and Common Core State Standards (CCSS). By framing anatomical and physiological concepts through narrative play, the curriculum supports NGSS Crosscutting Concepts, specifically Systems and System Models and Structure and Function. As students explore concepts like Smilin' Myelin™ or navigate Glitch Gully™, they engage in the NGSS practice of Developing and Using Models to understand how the human nervous system processes sensory information (MS-LS1-8), lowering cognitive barriers to active, inquiry-based STEM learning.

STEM & Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) and CASEL

F.I.O.E.’s focus on self-regulation aligns with the CASEL competencies of Self-Awareness and Self-Management, alongside CCSS ELA Vocabulary Acquisition Standards (e.g., CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.L.3.6). By integrating humor and playfulness, the curriculum uses laughter to lower situational anxiety, build social-emotional resilience, and promote cognitive flexibility. Learning the physical science of "brain freezes" through a lighthearted lens gives students engaging, metacognitive tools to identify emotional states, navigate sensory overload, and apply real-world regulation strategies.
